Fly-Tying for the Beginner

3 Hours

Spend a relaxing time with our experienced fly-tiers who will teach you the fundamentals of fly-tying. Work at your own pace to tie a basic pattern. Equipment and materials provided. Limited to 8 participants. A $20 registration fee is fully refundable upon class attendance. Ages 12 and up. Feb. 27, August 28, & Nov. 27, 2010.

Pisgah Fly Masters

Saturday, March 20 & Sunday, March 21, 2010 Attention all fly fishing men, women and children! The Pisgah Fly Masters fly-fishing tournament on the Davidson River is back for a third year, on March 20-21, 2010. This year the tournament will be comprised of three different divisions: youth, fisherman, & professional. The competitiion tests anglers casting skills off-stream and catch and release abilities on-stream. Registration is open to the first 125 entrants through March 3, 2010. The cost is $50 for the fisherman and professional divisions ; and $30 for the youth division. There is a late registration available for $75 for the fisherman and professional divisions and $50 for the youth divisiion until March 20 if space remains. Introduction to Fly Fishing

Come join our experienced and knowledgeable instructors for a day of fun and learning as they introduce you to the basics of fly-fishing. Topics covered will include equipment, knots, casting techniques, and aquatic entomology. Equipment and materials provided. Bring a lunch and non-slip shoes or waders if you have them. Beyond BOW: Introduction to Fly Fishing

10 Hours

Fri., April 9 thru Sun., April 11 Designed for women, this class is an extension of the Becoming an Outdoors Woman (BOW) program. Learn the basics of fly-fishing: knots, fly-tying, casting, and aquatic entomology on Saturday. On Sunday, conclude the weekend with fishing on the Davidson River. Wear clothing suitable for entering the water and bring non-slip shoes or waders. Equipment, materials, and meals provided. Ages 18 and up. To register contact B.B. Gillen at 919-218-3638. Fly Fishing:Casting for Beginners

5 Hours

10 am- 3 pm This is the perfect introductory class for beginners. Topics include casting theory, mechanics and practice techniques. Our experienced instructors allow you to learn at your own pace as they teach the overhead cast, roll cast and the art of false casting. Advanced instruction is available upon request. This class is held at Lake Imaging in Dupont State Forest. All equipment and materials are provided. Bring a lunch. A $20 registration fee is fully refundable upon class attendance. Ages 12 and up. Fly Fishing: On the Water

4 Hours

8 am - noon Practice your fly-fishing skills under the supervision and experienced eyes of our fly-fishing instructors. Learn about wading, reading the water, fly selection, presentation, casting, knots and stream entomology during a fun and relaxed morning of fishing. Bring non-slip wading shoes or waders. Equipment and materials provided. A $20 registration fee is fully refundable upon class attendance. Limit 6 participants. Ages 12 and up. Fly Fishing: On the Water in Little River

4 Hours

Practice your fly-fishing skills on the Little River in Dupont State Forest under the supervision and experienced eyes of our fly-fishing instructors. Do you think that fly fishing is just for trout in mountain streams? No! Come join our experienced and knowledgeable instructors for the day as they introduce you to the basics of fly-fishing while fishing on a local lake. Topics covered will include equipment, knots, casting techniques, and aquatic entomology. Equipment and materials provided. Bring a lunch and meet at Buck Forest parking area in DuPont State Forest. Fly-Tying for Beginners-Level II

If you have learned the basics of fly tying and feel ready to take the next step, then come spend a day with our experienced fly-tiers who will teach you the fundamentals of fly-tying. Work at your own pace to tie more advanced patterns. Equipment and materials provided. A $20 registration fee is fully refundable upon class attendance. Ages 12 and up. Limited to 8 participants.
